  • Exploration and practice of non-directly affiliated hospitals under the background of medical reform: a case study of Shenzhen Luohu Hospital Group

    Non-directly affiliated hospitals are an important supplement to directly affiliated hospitals of medical colleges in China. Considering the problems of teaching consciousness, school running form and teachers construction in non-directly affiliated hospitals, this paper takes the medical personnel training of a non-directly affiliated hospital which is subordinate to Shenzhen Luohu Hospital Group as an example, in order to analyze the related exploration methods of non-directly affiliated hospitals under the development of hospital collectivization, and put forward a trinity training mode of general practitioners, which is “medical college-non-directly affiliated hospital-community health center”. This paper further discusses the challenges and possible solutions faced by non-directly affiliated hospitals in the new era.

  • A Survey of Resident Doctors: Attitudes towards the Global Minimum Essential Requirements in Medical Education

    Objective To learn about the attitudes and understanding of resident doctors with concerning Global Minimum Essential Requirements in Medical Education (GMER).Methods Two hundred and five resident doctors of West China Hospital of Sichuan University were investigated by using questionnaires. Results The majority of the resident doctors regarded 4 domains of GMER important, but they were lack of the recognition of the importance of “population health and health systems”, “communication skills”, and “management of information” domains. Conclusions Medical curriculum should be revised to strengthen the recognition of the importance of all the 7 domains in medical education, including the postgraduate medical education, so as to cultivate doctors’ suitability for their responsibility in healthcare.

  • Exploration and practice of “Four-Early and Three-Entry” education model for clinical medical undergraduates

    Modern medical education faces multiple challenges, and there is a gap between the social needs and the methods of cultivating medical talents. The current undergraduate education in clinical medicine is subject centered, and the traditional model is difficult to cultivate students’ clinical abilities, practical skills, and research thinking effectively. Therefore, West China Hospital/West China School of Medicine of Sichuan University has proposed a new education model of “Four-Early and Three-Entry”, aiming to cultivate students’ professional ethics, clinical abilities, and scientific research innovation abilities through early clinical practice, scientific research participation, and social integration. This article will introduce the practice and preliminary results of the “Four-Early and Three-Entry” model, aiming to provide effective ways to improve the quality of medical undergraduate education and cultivate more comprehensive medical professionals.

  • Training and Admittance of Medical Specialist in China: Current Situation, Problems and Strategies

    Objective To provide scientific evidence for the establishment of medical specialist system in China by analyzing the current situation and problems, putting forward solution thoughts and countermeasures, from the angle of medical education system, residency training program and licensed physician management. Method Principle and method of evidence-based medicine were adopted. Retrospective investigation was conducted to gain information from 1996 to 2002 about enrollment and running form of medical education, current situation of residency and specialist training. Data was then extracted and analyzed for the benefit of corresponding countermeasures. Results By the end of 2001, there were totally 1 640 thousand physicians in China. The enrollment proportion of undergraduate and junior college student steadily increased from 1996 to 2002, while the situation quite the reverse as for medical secondary school. More than 300 thousand have taken part in the licensure exam, among whom less than 15% had university diploma. About 52 000 doctors have already completed the residency training program, and 65 700 are being trained. Standardized system of specialist training and admittance is not available in China. Conclusions It was three main tough problems that mainly account for the poor quality of doctor as a whole in China, which include diversity of educational system, insufficient software and hardware of residency training program, and absence of specialist training system. An allied funded program of "research on medical specialist training and admittance" has been on the way, and research outcomes will be published soon.

    【摘要】 目的 通过旁听香港理工大学物理治疗专业老师对四川大学临床医学院康复医学系2008级物理治疗专业学生的授课,并以《全球医学教育最低基本要求》中要求的7种基本能力为框架,体会香港理工大学老师的授课模式对培养医学生7种基本能力的的优势与效力,同时指出我国内地多数医学院校存在的不足,为我国普通高等医学院校在教学上为培养本科生的基本能力提供参考。

  • West China–Tibet Telemedical Education

    It has always been an important policy of the Chinese government to provide aid and assistance for the development of Tibet. With nearly one-eighth of China’s total land areas and about 0.002% of China’s total population, the Tibet Autonomous Region lags behind the domestic average level in medical education and is in bad need for medical professionals. The West China Center of Medical Sciences (WCCMS) of Sichuan University has managed to introduce US projects to set up the West China–Tibet Telemedical Education System to transmit medical courses in a real-time and interactive way. Based on this system, WCCMS has established a model for assisting the Tibet University Medical College through transmitting medical courses, training their medical faculty, sending WCCMS faculty to work in Tibet and admitting medical teachers and students from Tibet to study and be trained at West China Medical School and Hospital.

  • Teaching exploration and practice of Clinical Pharmacology course based on Good Clinical Practice in medical college

    The teaching of Clinical Pharmacology plays a very important role in medical education. In this article, we introduce our exploration and practice in Clinical Pharmacology course in West China Hospital of Sichuan University, which combines Good Clinical Practice with teaching methods such as problem-based learning and case-based learning. Furthermore, we analyze the actual effects in optimizing teaching content, renewing teaching mode, and improving teachers’ teaching ability, etc. We hope this article could provide new ideas for the teaching reform of undergraduate Clinical Pharmacology course.
