Objective To observe the clinical features, the complications and treatment effects of intermediate uveitis. Methods The clinical data of 36 patients (66 eyes) with intermediate uveitis were retrospectively analyzed, including the clinical features, fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) features, complications, treatment effects and prognosis. The patients, 21 males and 15 females, aged from 8 to 70 years, with the mean age of 34.8 years. There were 30 cases with bilateral lesions and 6 cases with unilateral lesions. Results The main clinical manifestation were vitreous opacity, peripheral retinal venous lesions, optic disc edema, macular edema and posterior subcapsular cataract. The results of FFA showed that peripheral retinal venous lesions, optic disc hyperfluorescence, cystoid macular edema and retinal vein staining. After the treatment, the visual acuity of 31 cases(60 eyes,90.9%) were improved, 4 cases(5 eyes,7.6%) were stable and 1 case(1 eye,1.5%) was worsening. The main complications were cystoid macular edema, posterior subcapsular cataract and vitreous hemorrhage which leads to visual damage. Conclusions Intermediate uveitis was a common bilateral and chronic progressive intraocular inflammation, the anterior vitritis, pars plana and peripheral retinal vascular changes were mainly involved. Early diagnosis and proper treatment may prevent the permanent visual damage.
Objective To summarize the changes of serum vitamin D level in patients with primary hyperparathyroidism (pHPT), the correlation between vitamin D and clinical manifestations, and feasible pathogenesis of pHPT. Method The literatures related to vitamin D and pHPT in recent years were reviewed. Results The level of vitamin D was decreased in patients with pHPT. Vitamin D level was negatively correlated with the weight of parathyroid adenoma, parathyroid hormone and blood calcium level, and positively correlated with bone mineral density. Conclusions Vitamin D nutritional status affects the severity of symptoms, main biochemical indexes and main clinical complications of patients with pHPT. There are various reasons accounted for the decline of vitamin D level, and the specific pathogenesis needs to be further explored. For patients with pHPT, vitamin D should be supplemented carefully and appropriately before surgical operation.
ObjectiveTo systematically review the clinical value of ultrasonographic elastography (UE) for the differential diagnosis of benign/malignant thyroid nodules. MethodsWe comprehensively searched the databases including The Cochrane Library (Issue2, 2013), PubMed, EMbase, CNKI, WanFang Data, Medalink, VIP and CBM from inception to the December of 2013, for including clinical research reports of determining thyroid nodules using ultrasonographic elastography. Literature screening according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria, data extraction and methodological quality assessment were completed by two reviewers independently. Then Meta-DiSc software (version 1.4) was used for pooling analysis. ResultsA total of 35 studies including 4 127 patients were included. The results of metaanalysis showed that, specificity, sensitivity, positive likelihood radio, negative likelihood radio and diagnostic odds ratio (DOR) were 0.89 (0.88 to 0.90), 0.88 (0.86 to 0.90), 6.37 (5.44 to7.47), 0.13 (0.11 to 0.16) and 58.72 (43.12 to 79.98), respectively; and the area under SROC curve (AUC) was 0.936 9. ConclusionCurrent evidence shows that ultrasonographic elastography has fairly high sensitivity (88%) and specificity (89%) in differential diagnosis of benign/malignant thyroid nodules. The positive rate in the malignant thyroid group is 58.72 times higher that in benign thyroid cancer with better efficacy in differential diagnosis, so ultrasonographic elastography is of effective and feasible diagnostic value for thyroid benign/malignant nodules.
The shoulder joint is the most prone to dislocation in the whole body, and more than 95% of them are anterior dislocation. Improper treatment after the initial dislocation is easy to lead to recurrent anterior dislocation or anterior shoulder instability, and the outcomes following conservative treatment is poor. Anterior shoulder instability can damage the soft tissue structure and bone structure that maintain the stability of shoulder joint, among which bone structure is the most important factor affecting the stability of shoulder joint. Diagnosis should be combined with medical history, physical examination, and auxiliary examination. Currently, three-dimensional CT is the most commonly used auxiliary examination means. However, various bone defect measurement and preoperative evaluation methods based on three-dimensional CT and the glenoid track theory have their own advantages and disadvantages, and there is still a lack of gold standard. Currently, the mainstream treatment methods mainly include Bankart procedure, coracoid process transposition, glenoid reconstruction with free bone graft, Bankart combined with Remplissage procedure, and subscapular tendon binding tamponade, etc. Each of these procedures has its own advantages and disadvantages. For the diagnosis and treatment of anterior shoulder instability, there are still too many unknown, further research and exploration need to be studied.
Liver cancer is one of the world’s most prevalent malignancies, and is also the third leading cause of cancer death in China. Hepatitis and cirrhosis background is a major feature of liver cancer patients in China, which makes specific requirements that suits the national conditions in many aspects of prevention and control like screening diagnosis, treatment options, and prognosis follow-up. The Specifications for Diagnosis and Treatment of Primary Liver Cancer (2017 Edition), which is based on China’s practice, proposes liver cancer staging in line with China’s national conditions and forms a multi-disciplinary joint diagnosis and treatment model based on surgical treatment. Liver transplantation is included in liver cancer as one of the surgical treatments option. It also emphasizes the support of evidence-based medicine. The Specifications for Diagnosis and Treatment of Primary Liver Cancer (2017 Edition) may have laid a solid foundation for future diagnosis and treatment of liver cancer in China.
Optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA) base on OCT with an algorithm that can image a high-resolution picture of retinal circulation. OCTA has allowed quantifying the characteristic lesions of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in early stage, such as fovea avascular zone, retinal vascular density and the counts of retinal microaneurysm. In addition, OCTA can objectively evaluate the progression and prognosis of DR in late stage through imaging involved retinal neovascularization. Understanding OCT angiography features of DR lesions with different course of the disease may provide reference value for the diagnosis and treatment of DR.

This article presents the CT and MR features of HAC of the pancreas, while also reviewing the relevant literatures to succinctly summarize the underlying pathophysiological mechanism, imaging diagnosis, and differential diagnosis. The objective is to enhance the understanding of HAC of the pancreas among clinicians and radiologists.
Objective To investigate the current situation, problems of medicinal biotechnology in China, and to provide the relevant countermeasures for its development. Methods We surveyed the units which could carry out medicinal biotechnology projects in 30 provinces except Tibet, and compared the results with that in America. Results The questionnaire were returned from 25 provinces (83.4%), and there were 1 477 medicinal biotechnology projects carried out by 149 units in the past 10 years. These projects ranged from basic biotechnology to regenerative medicine and stem cell researches. The basic research projects constituted quite large percentage among all the projects. But the development levels in different areas were imbalanced, cross correlation with the development levels of economy. An echelon team of talents has been developed, most of them were trained in China. The invested capital differed considerably among units, in general the amounts were insufficient. Most invested capital came from the government. The number of patent application for projects based on independent-developed technology was small. This showed that project principals had a poor understanding of patents. More than half of units did not have a Bioethics Committee. From the search result for documents, the number of articles on stem research of China was close to that in America; and the number of articles on gene treatment and tissue engineering has already exceeded that of America. However, research on gene diagnosis of China was lagging far behind America. Conclusions An echelon team of talents has been developed, most of them are trained in China. We should give full play to the advantage of the distribution of qualified personal resources in developed economical areas so as to promote the applicability and popularity of medicinal biotechnology in less developed areas.Regarding to applicability and development, we should first develop applied technology to form the core competetiveness of basic research, technology development and application; we should also strengthen the training in ethics and regulation to establish a set of scientific assessment of medicinal biotechnology and management system.
ObjectiveTo retrospectively analyze incidence and trends of retinopathy of prematurity (ROP) from 2004 to 2013 in Shenzhen. MethodsA total of 9100 preterm children (5401 males, 3699 females) were screened for ROP in Shenzhen from January 2004 to June 2013 using binocular ophthalmoscope or RetCam Ⅱ. First examination was performed from 4-6 weeks after birth. The birth weight was 520-2990 g with an average of (1710±410) g.The gestational age were 24-36 weeks with an average of (31.57±1.99) weeks. The gestational age of 208 children were <28 weeks, 3608 children were 28-32 weeks, 3553 children was 33-34 weeks, 1731 children was >34 weeks. The ocular findings were recorded according to the International Classification of ROP and The Early Treatment for ROP. Only the more aggressive eye of bilateral asymmetrical cases was counted for statistical purpose, and the cases required surgeries were defined as severe cases. The 10 years period was divided into first phase (2004-2008) and second phase (2009-2013). The incidence of ROP and severe ROP of these two phases was compared and statistics was analyzed. ResultsIn the past 10 years, the overall incidence of ROP and sever ROP in Shenzhen was 12.49% and 4.99% in this screen. The children were divided into 4 groups according to the birth weight, the ROP incidences of birth weight <1000 g, 1000-1499 g, 1500-1999 g and ≥2000 g were 62.62%, 28.40%, 11.34% and 3.63% respectively. The severe ROP incidences were 34.95%, 12.21%, 3.73% and 0.49% respectively in these birth weight groups. The children were divided into 4 groups according to gestational weeks, the ROP incidences of gestational age <28 weeks, 28-32 weeks, 33-34 weeks and >34 weeks were 67.31%, 25.27%, 7.22% and 3.87% respectively. Severe ROP incidences were 37.02%, 10.71%, 1.79% and 0.68% in these gestational age groups respectively. ROP and severe ROP incidences were decreased from 14.64% at first phase to 11.47% at second phase, and from 6.52% at first phase to 4.26% second phase respectively, the differences were statistical significant (χ2=26.96, 26.61; P<0.05). ROP and severe ROP incidence in <1000 g birth weight group at second phase were much less than the first phase (χ2=13.676, 5.271; P<0.05). In <28 weeks gestational age group, the ROP incidence was the same in first phase and second phase (χ2=0.843, P>0.05), but the severe ROP incidence at second phase was much less the first phase (χ2=4.757,P<0.05). ConclusionFrom 2004 to 2013, the incidences of ROP and severe ROP have decreased significantly in Shenzhen.
Objective To compare the characteristics of the results of fundus fluorescein angiography (FFA) and indocyanine green angiography (ICGA) in patients with classic choroidal neovasculazation (CNV). Methods The data of FFA and ICGA of 34 patients (36 eyes) with classic CNV were analyzed retrospectively and the results of the two examinations were analyzed contrastively. Results The results of FFA revealed the clew or cartheel-tike configuration of classic CNV at the early phase in 3 out of 15 eyes (20%) with age-related macular degeneration (AMD); in 5 out of 7 eyes with pathological myopia(71.4%); and in 9 out of 14 eyes with central exudative chorioretinopathy (CEC),(64.3%),In 36 eyes with classic CNV, the images of ICGA indicated CNV distinctly in 20 (55.6%) and indistinctly in 15 (41.6%); CNV was not detected by ICGA in 1 eye (2.8%); feeding blood vessels in 6 eyes (16.7%) were detected by ICGA but none by FFA. Conclusions At the early phase of FFA, the configuration of classic CNV is clew-like in eyes with pathological myopia and CEC, and erose in eyes with AMD. The image of ICGA which indicated the outline of classic CNV is not as clear as the one of FFA, but it can reveal the feeding vessels which FFA can not. (Chin J Ocul Fundus Dis, 2006, 22: 217-209)
