  • Research progress on the correlation between gender differences and the incidence of knee osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is one of the common degenerative joint diseases, which is more common in the middle-aged and elderly population. It shows significant gender differences, with a significantly higher incidence rate in women than in men, seriously affecting the quality of life of patients. However, there are few research reports on the correlation between gender differences and the incidence of KOA both domestically and internationally. Therefore, this article will summarize and analyze the potential causes of gender differences related to the incidence of KOA from five aspects: hormone levels, anatomical biomechanical characteristics, genes, obesity, and exercise-muscle factors. Through a comprehensive review of research progress, the aim is to provide a theoretical basis for gender based personalized treatment of KOA in clinical practice.

  • Treatment and progress of cutaneous neurofibroma

ObjectiveTo summarize current widely-used therapies for cutaneous neurofibroma (cNF) and related research progress. MethodsBased on extensive investigation of domestic and foreign research, the existing treatment of cNF, including the indications, effectiveness and trials of targeted drugs were reviewed. ResultscNF is a hallmark feature of neurofibromatosis type 1 and has a dramatic negative impact on patient appearance and quality of life. At present, there is no standard management of cNF. Invasive treatment is a commonly-used treatment. Surgical removal gives excellent cosmetic results, but it is difficult for multiple tumors; CO2 laser ablation, laser photocoagulation, electro-drying, and radiofrequency ablation are effective in treating lots of cNF at one time. Although fast and effective, these therapies can lead to depigmentation, hyperpigmentation, or extensive scarring. There is no targeted drug approval for cNF, and a series of studies have been carried out on the Ras-MEK pathway, Ras-mTOR pathway, receptor tyrosine kinase, et al. ConclusionThe treatment of cNF has developed rapidly in recent years and has broad prospects, but the individualization and precision of the treatment still needs further clinical research.

  • Research progress about the molecular mechanism of liver metastasis from colorectal cancer

ObjectiveTo summarize the papers about the molecular mechanisms of liver metastasis from colorectal cancer in recent years and in order to provide assistance for the diagnosis and treatment of liver metastases from colorectal cancer.MethodThe relevant literatures at home and abroad in recent years about the molecular mechanisms of liver metastasis from colorectal cancer were reviewed.ResultsThe molecular mechanism of liver metastasis from colorectal cancer is complicated. For example, microRNA-192 could inhibit liver metastasis from colorectal cancer through multiple targets, however microRNA-181a could promote liver metastasis from colorectal cancer. TGF-β inhibits liver metastasis from colorectal cancer by inhibiting cell proliferation and Smad-dependent signaling to induce apoptosis. Elevated CEA level not only help in the diagnosis of colorectal cancer, but also as a prognostic indicator for colorectal cancer patients. CEA could promote liver metastasis by affecting the survival of colorectal cancer cells in vessels, changeing the liver microenvironment, and affecting the adhesion and survival of circulating tumor cells in the liver.ConclusionsThe molecular mechanism of liver metastasis of colorectal cancer has not been fully elucidated. Through in-depth study of the mechanism of liver metastasis of colorectal cancer, it can provide molecular targets for targeted therapy in patients with liver metastases from colorectal cancer, such as bevacizumab, cetuximab, panitumab and so on. Detecting the change of serological markers in patients with colorectal cancer can help diagnose, judge recurrence, prognosis and metastasis.

  • Research progress of surgical treatment for anterior shoulder dislocation and combined injuries

Objective To summarize the research progress of surgical treatment for anterior shoulder dislocation and combined injuries. Methods The related literature was reviewed, and the surgical treatment options for the anterior shoulder dislocation and its combined injuries were summarized. Results Anterior shoulder dislocation can combine with anteroinferior capsular ligament complex injury (Bankart injury), bony Bankart defect, and Hill-Sachs lesion. For Bankart and bony Bankart injuries, arthroscopic repair or coracoid osteotomy combined with bony graft reconstruction can be performed. For Hill-Sachs lesion, conservative treatment, soft tissue repair, or bony reconstruction should be selected based on the extent of the bone defect. For bipolar injury, the Bankart repair, Remplissage, or arthroplasty should be selected based on the extent of the glenoid defect. Conclusion With the development of arthroscopy and the improvement of the surgical concept, there is a complete set of surgical options for various injuries of the anterior shoulder dislocation. When choosing a surgical procedure, the patient’s specific injury and age, exercise level, and other relating factors should be comprehensively assessed in order to achieve the best results.
